About the Mullen-Hall School Garden

The Mullen-Hall School Garden at the Mullen-Hall Elementary School in downtown Falmouth, MA is located in a previously unused area of the schoolyard along Hamlin Ave. and Shiverick's Pond. The garden provides students with opportunities for outdoor learning. The garden features raised growing beds, a bird & butterfly habitat garden, a gathering space, garden shed, and picnic tables to serve as an outdoor classroom. In the garden, teachers can enhance classroom curricula through hands-on, garden-based lessons. Students can also experience the garden through Gardens Alive, a volunteer-led enrichment program.

The garden project began with an initial request by first grade teachers for an outdoor space to enhance a curriculum unit on seeds. Principal Donna Noonan and a core group of parents and teachers expanded the vision into a garden that could benefit all students and teachers at the school. With the support of the Mullen-Hall community, grants and local businesses, the garden was constructed in time for gardening to begin in the fall of 2012.
