First Grade Friendship Feast
Today the first graders gathered together for the First Grade Friendship Feast. Each class prepared a portion of the meal to be shared by all. The greens planted earlier this fall in the first grade garden beds were harvested yesterday and prepared as a delicious salad which was enthusiastically enjoyed by students! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank You Lawrence School students!

Visions For Our Garden
At the start of the school year, Mullen-Hall students were asked to
share their visions for our new school garden. Here is a sampling of
the hundreds of images and ideas that lined the hallways and cafeteria
walls for the past month. May they serve as an inspiration to all of us
at work on the garden!

In your school garden...
Life is happening.
Sunflowers are shining.
Bees are feasting.
Caterpillars are munching their way through the milkweed.
And even as the September sun grows long, sprouts are pushing their way skyward.
Welcome to the Mullen-Hall School Garden. Take a few moments and walk through it with
your child. Let them show you what they find there. They are why this garden
exists—and why it matters.
This is their garden.
It’s our garden.
And it’s only just beginning to bloom.

Our Community Garden
This week, third grade students in Mrs. Lewis' class have been learning about communities. We went out to write about how the garden is part of the Mullen-Hall community. Here is what they had to say:
The Mullen-Hall garden is behind my school. It is part of my community. Teachers, volunteers, and kids help us in the garden. We started to plant lettuce, beans, radishes, and beets.
-Mitchel
We have a garden behind my school. It is a community garden. Little kids help in the garden. The best part is the lettuce.
-Marcus
The garden is part of our school community. People built the garden. There are sunflowers in the garden and scarecrows.
-Forrest
The school garden is part of our Mullen-Hall community. People from our community helped build the garden. There are sunflowers, scarecrows, and a shed. The kids in Mullen-Hall also helped fill and plant in the flower beds.
-Meghan
Our garden is part of Mullen-Hall's community in Falmouth. People and parents built the garden. There are sunflowers in the garden. All of them are bigger then me except for two of them. There are scarecrows in the garden.

The garden has seen a lot of activity in the first two weeks of school! The staff was able to utilize the garden area for their grade level meetings the first week the staff was back. Many classes can be seen taking advantage of the space and the beautiful weather we have been having to do so. Classes have been observing the garden using their five senses, writing poems, completing a vision activity, and checking on the caterpillars. Staff members can be seen enjoying their lunch in the garden from time to time too.
